Canon 11 · Projection Frame
Every view reveals something and leaves something outside the frame.
Equation 11 defines the Projection Frame as the bounded transformation through which a larger field becomes a visible, measurable, narratable, or actionable representation. The frame determines what is selected, emphasized, compressed, omitted, and rendered.

Equation 11
The frame \(F\) is the result of projecting the larger field \( \Psi_{\Omega} \) through a declared projection operator \( \mathcal{P}_{\Omega\rightarrow F} \).
The projection may include Selection \( \mathcal{S} \), Gating \( \mathcal{G} \), Transformation \( \mathcal{T} \), and Rendering \( \mathcal{R} \), all contained by Ethical Law \( \mathcal{E}_{9} \).
Plain Language
No map shows every detail of the territory. No photograph contains the entire event. No chart displays every variable. No story preserves every voice. A projection frame is useful because it reduces complexity, but the reduction must remain visible enough that readers do not mistake the frame for the whole.
The frame determines which people, variables, times, sources, objects, or signals enter.
Scale, position, repetition, color, ordering, language, and weight determine what appears most important.
A complex field may be reduced into a summary, graph, story, category, score, map, image, or model.
Everything outside the frame does not disappear from reality merely because it is not rendered.

Frame Layers
What field, event, time range, population, object, or system is included?
From whose location, instrument, role, scale, or perspective is the field viewed?
Which variables, records, voices, images, or events enter the frame?
Which selected elements receive more prominence, confidence, scale, or authority?
How are units translated, grouped, normalized, summarized, or compressed?
How is the result presented: graph, story, image, map, table, interface, equation, or ritual?
How can the frame be challenged, widened, corrected, or replaced?
Frame Types
A map, room, boundary, route, artifact layout, site plan, or geographic view.
A moment, day, week, moon, season, historical period, timeline, or memory window.
A graph, average, distribution, ratio, index, score, table, or normalized scale.
A story structure determining beginning, conflict, agency, motive, sequence, and conclusion.
A crop, angle, lens, contrast, background, juxtaposition, caption, or image sequence.
A dashboard, interface, checklist, protocol, workflow, or decision surface.
Projection Loss
Projection loss \( \mathcal{L}_{F} \) represents what cannot be fully recovered from the rendered frame alone. The inverse term is conceptual: many frames cannot reconstruct the entire source field.
A summary may remove exact timing, individual variation, sequence, or source context.
A single narrative may exclude participants whose account does not fit the chosen structure.
A chart or category may make fuzzy boundaries appear exact.
A close-up may hide the larger environment; a wide view may erase small but important detail.
Multi-Frame Method
A multi-frame set compares several projections of the same source field. Agreement may strengthen a conclusion. Difference may reveal scale, position, omission, or transformation effects that one frame hides.
What is physically present, measured, assembled, damaged, or preserved?
What did each observer directly experience under known conditions?
How did the system, object, or event develop over time?
What meanings, names, narratives, correspondences, or rituals are attached?
What mechanisms, inputs, outputs, dependencies, and measurable limits are present?
Who is affected, who consents, who bears risk, and who can stop or correct the process?
Frame Protocol
Define the event, archive, system, object, population, or time range being projected.
State what the frame is meant to explain, compare, reveal, guide, persuade, or decide.
Record role, instrument, location, scale, access, interest, and limitation.
State what enters, what remains outside, and why.
Document normalization, translation, aggregation, editing, coding, weighting, or compression.
Choose chart, story, map, image, table, interface, equation, or another form suited to the purpose.
List detail, voice, uncertainty, context, scale, or sequence that the frame cannot preserve.
Change scale, source, time range, viewpoint, category, or rendering to test what changes.
Review privacy, dignity, consent, proportion, transparency, accountability, and correction.
Record how the frame changed and which earlier versions remain in the archive.
Worked Example 1
The artifact, room, light, background, camera, operator, and surrounding objects.
The crop includes the artifact and excludes most of the work area.
Exposure, contrast, focus, perspective, color balance, and background replacement alter presentation.
A promotional image emphasizes the artifact’s form and symbolic identity.
Scale, weight, hidden construction, back side, flaws, and full environmental context may be absent.
Do not edit the image so heavily that material, condition, color, or finish becomes misleading.
Worked Example 2
Messages, reports, dates, witnesses, court orders, police records, schedules, and later corrections.
Choosing only one side’s strongest messages can create a distorted frame.
Events are summarized, ordered, categorized, and connected to claims.
Tone, missing messages, unknown context, private circumstances, and unrecorded events may remain outside.
Use exact dates, quote sparingly, preserve full exhibits, separate direct evidence from interpretation, and attach contradictions.
Protect children and unnecessary private information while preserving relevant evidence and correction.
Worked Example 3
Multiple carriers, gains, gates, timing, routing, visualizations, presets, witness logs, and device state.
The dashboard exposes only the controls needed for the current task.
Master volume, mute, stop, current preset, and active carriers receive highest visibility.
Hidden implementation detail, browser audio behavior, device differences, and historical settings may not appear on the main screen.
An observatory view may expose waveform, timeline, carrier values, and logs for deeper analysis.
Stop and mute controls must remain obvious, working, and accessible.
Worked Example 4
All times, receipts, addresses, counts, dates, and numbers encountered during the chosen period.
Only occurrences matching a meaningful number are collected.
The selected matches become highly visible while nonmatching numbers disappear from the frame.
The pattern may still serve as a personal mirror, prompt, or memory marker.
A complete log of matches and nonmatches is needed before claiming unusual frequency.
The symbolic meaning and statistical claim remain separate projections of the same witness field.
Scope
Make selection, viewpoint, transformation, rendering, omission, and revision visible.
Claim that every viewpoint is equally accurate or that a frame can replace the underlying field.
Good framing can reduce complexity enough to make action, comparison, teaching, or testing possible.
Every frame should disclose enough of its boundary that readers can recognize what remains outside.
Failure Modes
A chart, story, image, category, or model is treated as the complete field.
The audience is not told which records, voices, dates, trials, or variables were excluded.
Axes, crop, contrast, category boundaries, or time range exaggerate or conceal change.
One observer’s position becomes universal while others disappear.
Summaries remove uncertainty, disagreement, sequence, or exception without disclosure.
The representation cannot be challenged, widened, revised, or compared against source material.
Ethical Boundary
A useful frame may simplify, but it must not knowingly conceal decisive evidence, erase affected people, misrepresent scale, expose unnecessary private information, or prevent correction.
Do not include personal details merely because they exist inside the source field.
Disclose significant selection, transformation, uncertainty, editing, and limitation.
Do not reduce people to labels, data points, villains, symbols, or background material.
Keep the source record and revision path available when the frame influences real decisions.
Practice
Name the larger event, archive, system, place, dataset, or object.
List selected variables, voices, dates, images, records, and conditions.
Record editing, normalization, translation, aggregation, categorization, and weighting.
Identify omitted detail, scale, uncertainty, sequence, voice, and context.
